The Fruitport boys soccer team beat all of its conference opponents the first time around, and is showing no sign of slowing down in the O-K Silver tournament.

The undefeated Trojans rolled past visiting Hopkins 7-1 on Tuesday in the opening round of the tournament, which was big step toward winning the overall conference title.

Fruitport can clinch at share of the O-K Silver championship on Thursday with a victory over Godwin Heights at home in the tournament semifinals.

The Trojans improved to 15-0-1 on the season and 9-0 in conference play.

Jorge Burgos-Yack

Tuesday’s victory took some of the sting out the Trojans’ 1-1 tie with Spring Lake on Saturday, which was the first blemish on their otherwise perfect record.

Jorge Burgos-Yack and Carter Gregor each scored two goals for Fruitport for the second time in three games. Also finding the back of the net were Davis Johnson, Sam Krueger and Ryder Merkins.

Isaac VanderMolen added three assists while Burgos-Yack and Hudson Hazekamp each had one.

Carter Gregor

While multi-goal games are nothing new for the talented Burgos-Yack, the recent flurry of goals from Gregor, a junior midfielder, has been a welcome addition to the attack, according to Fruitport Coach Dan Hazekamp.

“Carter is peaking at the right time,” the coach said. “He has continued to grow in confidence throughout the season. I’m really proud of him and happy for him.  He’s earned the opportunities and is doing a great job of finishing them.”

Thursday’s semifinal game will likely be a challenge for the Trojans, who had to come from behind to beat the fast and physical Godwin Heights squad 2-1 in early September.eddiestorageth brandsmini
