The Fruitport girls tennis team kicked off its season with a convincing 7-1 victory over Kenowa Hills on Thursday.

The Trojans posted straight-set victories in three of the four singles matches and swept all four doubles matches.

Winning in singles were Josalynn Nowicki (No. 1), Emma Fecher (No. 3) and Gracie Ferrell (No. 4).

Nowicki is the lone returning singles player from last year. Overall the Trojans have nine returning players from the 2024 squad.

Winning their doubles matches were Fruitport’s Rylee Rufender and Lena Saffell (No. 1); Abby Poort and Bailey Poort (No. 2), Cara Hooker and Brystol TenHove (No. 3) and Mylee Mineni and Jordan Smith (No. 4).

Mineni and Smith won their first set 6-2, lost the second 7-6, then won the tiebreaker 10-6.

The Trojans will compete at home on Saturday.eddieth brandsministorage
