Fruitport senior pitcher Brooklyn Russell was dominant on the mound on Thursday, striking out 11 batters as the Trojans opened the season with a 6-3 victory over Covenant Christian in non-conference play.

Russell scattered six hits in a seven-inning complete game with no walks.

The Trojans got on the board in the top of the first inning when Madyson Prout homered to center field and Kalli Tawney hit an RBI double down the right field line.

Tawney hit a homer in the fourth, adding two more runs. Fruitport’s final runs came when freshman Bre Chiaverini hit a two-run triple.

Kalli Tawney finished with three hits while Kya Tawney and Brylee DeWitt each added two.

Overall Fruitport had 11 hits in the game.
